Setting My Goals

Today I ran 5 miles on the treadmill while I looked out the window at the blue cloudless sky and the trees NOT swaying because there's absolutely no wind (maybe a slight breeze) and was slightly disappointed that I forgot my watch at home and wasn't running outside.  Not that I need my watch to run outside, wait, who am I kidding, I'm totally one of those types of people who has to know what pace I'm running, what mile I'm at, how far I went, and how long it took me!  Therefore, no watch = no run outside!  One day I'll run free and naked, but it'll be in the far off future!  I'm really not sure how I survived without a Garmin for so long.

On to more important things, my race is this Saturday morning.  I'm feeling pretty prepared, even though none of my long runs were over 10 miles, that's normally where I stop anyway.  Although I can pretend this is a training run for my half in 2 weeks, then I can say I ran over 10 miles!!  Clever!  Anywho, my race goals:

  • No walking, unless there's a jam at a water stop.
  • Sub 2:00, just kidding!  Fun to say, but just kidding.  Hopefully around 2:20ish.
  • Stay positive and relaxed through entire race.  Negative thoughts will only bring me down.
  • Don't shoot out the gates too fast.  Yeah right, so at least find your proper pace after the first couple miles.
  • Maintain that pace for the remainder of the race and hopefully have a little Umph at the end.
These all seem maintainable.  The weather is gonna be in the low to mid 70's which is perfect for me!  I can wear my usual racing outfit leather pants and a feather boa yellow shorts and a tech tee.  And because this is a smaller scale race, I get to see the GF all over the course!
